The DJI Osmo Pocket 4P features two lenses, a 20mm wide and 60mm portrait lens, which offer an incredible 17 stops of dynamic range and 4K/240 frames per second shooting.
The gimbal camera has upgraded ActiveTrack 8.0 to keep subjects – whether people, vehicles, pets or dynamically shaped objects in the frame, even at 12x zoom.
One of our dogs can move pretty quickly, zooming in and out of the water and among the rocks at the beach, and for the most part the camera managed to keep up. It was pretty impressive.
Even when it lost the subject, it could quickly find it again and recommence tracking.
DJI, which is a global leader in drones, has been making gimbal cameras since 2015 and has continually upgraded not only the hardware but the software to download video and quickly create masterpieces.
We put the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P to the test at a luxury car show, shooting everything from Lamborghinis to vehicles driven by Australian F1 racing legend Sir Jack Brabham.
Having a three-times optical zoom lens made all the difference in being able to film inside the cars and zoom in on the car’s finer features.

The 60mm lens has a f/1.8 aperture (f/6.3 equivalent depth of field) to compress the background, creating the nice bokeh blurred effect behind portrait subjects.
This is a camera you could easily use as a more discreet shooter at a wedding, party, or special corporate occasion.
Some of the slow motion footage we have seen coming from the Osmo Pocket 4P is spectacular, particularly when the subject is close at hand.
Animals whirling by, spinning subjects, flowing hair, flying dirt or falling snow can be captured in 8X ultra HD slow motion footage at 4k/240 fps.
Slow shutter video can be used to trace flowing light or capture movement trails.
Despite weighing only 230 grams, the camera has a 3-axis mechanical gimbal.
Like the more basic Osmo Pocket 4, the Pocket 4P has a touchscreen which can be simply rotated to power on the device and start recording quickly.
You can flip the screen to a vertical position to film in 3K vertical video for social, though one annoying flaw is that makes two buttons unreachable.
You can control the camera via joystick and adjust the speed of both the gimbal and the zoom.
You can also use gestures like an open palm to trigger active tracking while flashing a V sign will start recording.
The camera can capture photos in 37MP high resolution as well as 4K 1.5 clips similar to iPhones Live Photo.
One of the most impressive things about the DJI devices is the speed in which files can be transferred to your phone or computer. Even wirelessly it is fast while USB 3.1 support enables transfer speeds of up to 800 megabytes a second.
The camera offers a runtime of up to 210 minutes when fully charges while it takes just 18 minutes for it to charge to 80 per cent.
It also has a generous 107 gigabytes of stage, while the combo kits offer things like separate microphones, a fill light, a small tripod and a compact carry bag.
So is it a camera that could completely replace a DSLR or mirrorless camera?
Certainly a lot of professionals who have used it reckon it can.
It is definitely worth considering for those who create their own content, whether for business, travel or filmmakers on the go.
It’s a combination that offers great results and lots of the fun factor and creativity which you might not have in even the best phone.

The Vlog kit includes a super handy compact wireless touchscreen remote controller that lets you view a live video feed, adjust camera movement, control zoom, and change shooting modes from a distance.
